So bad news, fell off my bike and I think dislocated my color bone, other wise ok, I have pretty much full motion back just can't sleep on it. and can't do hand stands yet either. is this normal? I am pretty shure it is back in proper placement but not 100%.
other bad news is couch surfing is letting me down.
I am taking to bus to florence for 3 nights and then hitch hiking to Augsbourg Germany to see a pretty girl, with a stop over in Venezia.
Yay travel.

Then repost this in your journal (if you like) and see what people want to do with you!

| Of Realized dreams and following hearts. |
[Feb. 26th, 2008|10:14 am] |
Fevrier 25
So The Last few weeks have been some of the most amazing and reaffirming in a long time.
The Stage intensive passed well and I had a lot of fun getting to work more closely with some of my favorite professors from last semester, Jean-Yves et François Sevrign-Laplanche. One week was playing with grammar with Jean-Yves and the other was writing a paper in three days with François. Both very informative and helpful for my French.
Two weeks ago I started real classes, and got it boiled down to taking medieval art with discussion section, African art history with discussion section, and ancient Egyptian art history. Along with Mandatory Writing class, which is great and is again with afore mentioned teacher Jean-Yves. Then there is the Monitoriat, which is a tutoring section on; this is how the French academic system works. When you teacher asks for a thesis paper he wants this, of he wants a travail he wants this, etc. Highly useful but also slightly boring. But all are going well and I understand most of what goes on in class. During that first week I was walking down the street wondering what my friend Elizabeth Toby, who had said she was going to pass through some time was up to. When my phone rings and it’s her, asking if I can still host her and if that would be possible on Thursday. So she came and we had a wonderful long weekend eating good hippie food and talking about Yoga, life, the universe and everything.
We did alot of Reiki and I am about as exited abot it and as wanting to useit as when I first got my intunement. It has helped alot on the being awere front.
She got me hooked on the Idea of doing yoga once a day for forty days to build in the habit. So I started that and am now on about week two. It is a wonderful practice because at the least I do three sun salutes a day and feel cheeted when I only get to do that little.
She stayed with me till Monday when she moved into a squat in Lyon. The squat is populated by wonderful people, a mix of anarchists’, hippies, and French kids ducking out of rent. They have a bike shop out back, and I might well be able to put in a wood shop for them, which would mean having space to sculpt in. The second week of classes flew by in a whirlwind of getting to know my friend Kate form the Oregon program better, eating better quality food, with lots of veggies and less meat, seeing Elizabeth a few times and starting a regular cooking group with my friend Lia. The last part is with the goal to learn French cooking, which gives us an opportunity to about once a week spring 5 or 6 euros for a bottle of wine to go with dinner. Friday of that week the local fire troop did a photo shoot for the members, which was great and heart warming when all the members greeted me warmly and I was reminded how much I like the French people I know.
I have been having some trubble, because I felt for a while that I did not know any french friends, but have decided I just need to make more effert to invite them out ot coffée or what ever.
I have also been really wanting to drop out of college and follow my heart. Leanding the Alchemist to elizabeth and talking about it alot did not help. Nor did meeting the squat who are all doing what they want to in life and if they wern't they would change what they were doing.
This is balenced out by the fact that I love school here in france at the least for being a good way to learn french grammer. and by the fackt that I will only have one year to finish when I get back to get back states. People have suggjested takeing time off but I know I would never go back. so I just need to tough it out and get that degree and then go Live!
Sunday Elizabeth and I took advantage of the first part of my weeklong break to hitch down to Grasse to visit my friend Alex. We passed by Grenoble and then through some of the most beautiful moon lit mountainscapes I have ever seen all the way past Gap to Dings les Bains where we slept about 9 KM out side of town. A nice off duty cop who had picked us up in Gap dropped us next to a nice wood that he recommended for camping in. The next day saw us lunching in Dings les Bains after walking around the charming old town part and seeing the cathedral on the top of the hill. Which had an open iron grillwork roof on the bell tower. (Sadly one could not enter the cathedral) The architecture was getting more and more Mediterranean as we went south. Next we went to Castellan, Got picked in Dings les Baines and were dropped in Castellan by a an old guy in a van with a dog coming down from Brittany after dropping his wife off west of Paris and now was on his way to nice to visit his daughter. Castellan is a beautiful town with a Church perched on the top of a rock out cropping over looking the tiny medieval village center. To get to the Tiny Chappell de Notre Dame on the top of the rock we took a tiny rocky path after hiding out packs at the bottom. Half an hour latter we were looking a thousand feet down an the village, from this vantage one could clearly see the old city walls that were transformed into houses at some point. When we went into the chapel we found a rope that went up to the bell in the tower. There was a sign next to this rope that asked to not ring the bell…
…Excessively because it annoys the villagers. Angry mobs with pitch forks that sort of thing. We took this, as you are welcome to ring the bell, just not too loud or long. So we did. And so was finished the first of my dreams realized in that week. Since it has always been my dream to ring a church bell. It was great.
We got to Grasse that evening where my friend Alex made us feel very welcome indeed before rushing off the a dinner part that he had to go too. When he got back we were just cooking dinner and he shared a second dinner with us and we talked till late. In the morning we took the train to Cannes where we spent the day being beach bums et ont Proffité de Soleil. That night I had a wired bout of sickness which involved throwing up twice but after feeling much better, which was weird because Elisabeth felt fine and we had eaten the same things for the past two days. The next day was Nice and then Monaco; the latter was very much disappointing.
On Wednesday we said bye to Alex and his excellent hospitality, and took the train to Cannes where Elizabeth caught the train back to Lyon and I to St Sebastian. From there I hitchhiked to Arles. Here we have to back up; In Grasse I had passed a shop that was selling Lagiols, which is a type of knife originating from Lagiol in France with a very aesthetic but functional design; and if you find a good quality one you will carry it for the rest of your life. It has been my dream to carry one since I first clapped eyes on one when I was 18. On the way to Arles I passed another shop selling them and started to ask my self where Lagiol actually was. The next man I got picked up by next told me where it was, low and behold, further in the direction I was already going. I decided then and there to and have a look at the factories because rumor had it that the knives were still hand forged. I spent that afternoon exploring Arles. Then hitchhiked into the mountains to Mende. Turns out I was going to one of the coldest regions in France, I found this out that night when I woke to find all my possessions and my sleeping bag frost covered, which explained the freezing feeling that I then tried to ignore all night. The next day I hitched to Lagiol. The region is one of the most beautiful I have seen in France. It is le Hoit Plateau, south of Ardesh. It is covered in rolling hills just baring them selves of snow, the snow still lies in patches and people told me I was lucky because usually it is about a meter deep at this point in the winter. In Lagiol the first factory I walked into was the only one in Lagiol, which creates knives artisanaly, meaning each knife is created by one person. One person sees the knife through from forging to choosing the wood or horn for the handle to the final polishing. Talked to the sales man and after seeing that there hand forged folded steel versions were running about 600 euros I looked at the lower end models. Where I found one with a violet wood handle with some flaws in the final finishing this knocked the price down to 35 euros. Funny how for me these flaws make the knife unique and so more desirable and for them lessen the value of the knife. I did not complain. And left after the free factory tour and museum tour where I get to talk to the man who makes the folded steel for the high end models while he worked in the old forge in the museum. Sadly he was not interested in talking too much. This fulfilled my second dream of the week.
The entire time between arles and lagiol I had the fealing like the intire world was conspirteing to make me live my dream. before as well, it is the longest/fastest distance I have ever covered, hitching three rides of over two hours a piece. It was reafferming to know that life would do that. but also hard to know that I could not listen to my heart and just fuck school and go.
My third dream was fulfilled when I came down off the gorgeous hoit plateau and was going to hitchhike back to Lyon from Valance along the Rhone. I Saw a boat pointed towards Lyon with the engine running. Having always wanted to hitch a ride on a Boat. So I stopped to ask if they were going towards Lyon. The response was yes they were but would not get there till Wednesday at the earliest. But I was welcome to come along for however long I could or would. They had just fixed the engine after being stuck there for a week. So I stayed with them for two days and got to know them a bit. The Captain had built the Chinese junk 18 years ago and has been circumnavigating the globe ever since since. He takes people in at 25 euros a day for room and board. I haggled him down which I would rather not have done but needed the money to take the train back to Lyon.
The first day I was with them was sunday all day. that eveinging I had the choice of a ride to lyon or to stay on the boat and miss classes. my head said to go my heart said stay. talking this over with one of the crew a very thoughtful man and philosophical french teaher on two weeks of break. I decided to follow my heart for a day and miss class. it was one of the best decisions I have made in very long time.
It was a marvelous two days that I spent with them and am looking forwards to trading my help with boat repairs and handy work, for more time aboard the Nothing Wong when they get here.
Cheers, Wayli |

| | I truly understand David Grissman and jerry garcia | ] | So I had a great dream last night.
I was being attacked by weird assassins with these mettle lance like spears. They kept throwing them at me and I kept dodging them, and then I started to throw them back and managed to hurt quite a few of them, then I realized that they were also attacking my family. So we kept fighting, eventually they managed to stab anselm through the throat, I found this out when I found him buried up to his chest in sand with a assassin behind him, who was wounded in the leg. anselm grabbed the spear and that was through his throat and pushed it through at the same time killing himself and stabbing at the assassin which distracted him so that I could kill him. At what point I was suddenly holding my knife, because I left my lance stuck in him. I then went back and killed the leader who was lying there with a lance through her. But a part of the knife tip broke off in her heart.
Latter I saw her better with the person that had sent them and she was better except that there was still a shard of my knife in her heart. Which when I called the shard back to fix the knife must have ripped out of her and I hope killed her.
This is interesting because it is the second time a knife of my making has come to my need in a dream. and the other time I defending others.
I also really liked the lances they were very pretty and I think I might have to make some like them sometime.
Sorry anselm that you died in my dream. But all I could think of at the time was that it was a good death that you died defending the family, and that you could have lived if you had not done what you did, but in doing so it was a good death.
Ok So wayli's dreams have turned morbid, is it bad that I really enjoyed this dream? I mean not the Anselms dead part, but the pure physical aspect of fighting. The joy of combat for the right reasons. being I was attacked with the intent to kill me and I was defending my family. |

Yes this means I have found housing. Did so before Christmas break, It is a little apartment with two bedrooms rooms, a small bathroom; a toilette, yes these things are separate in France (really smart actually means you can go to the toilette while some one else is using the bathroom) and a small kitchen. I share it with Julien a musician who so far seems really cool and is happy to have an Anglophone in the house to read over his lyrics. I told him I would be only to glad to so if he was willing to read over my papers. The apartment is on the last story, so we have only one apartment over us under the roof, which means we get lots of light and a nice breeze. The floors are polished hard wood, and the furnishings minimal but I like that sometimes. Only sad thing is that ever corner has either a door, one of two closet doors, or a heater, which means my bed, will be away from the wall. And I do not have a nice corner for my altar. I am looking for a small table to put it on and I will probebly put it in the corner by the heater but bed side tables are hard to find in thrift store, but it will go in a place of honer in the new abode. But that will all be worked out and I will soon be well installed, moving the last of my stuff and the bed that my host parents are loaning me tonight. Last thing about living situation and then on to recounting the holidays, I will not have internets so up dates will become less frequent but I will still be checking my Email about once a week. I am actually happy to be away from the Internets and such, I think I will make a consious effort to put the time that I would usualy spend on line towards meditation and working on my magic, and of course sketching and gathering ideas for things to make. I have been takeing alot of time to leditate and think about life and awereness and magic. this is good and I am making slow progress back to the plae that I should be at this point. It feals good to be able to do things like tell when people have been in a room while I was gone, or tuched my stuff. Its good. Christmas break was one of the most peaceful and relaxed and best that I have spent since I have started having Christmas breaks. I got to go to Germany and spend time with my aunts, uncles, and cousins, and my grandma. Highlights of the trip included getting to know all of them again since the last time I saw them was 5 years ago, walking on a frozen lake, beautiful that, never had an experience like and hope to have many more like it. It was such a magical feeling to walk on watter and feal a lake under neath you in a way that you sualy never get to. Then I went to sweden. Sweden is a country that grabbed me and I will try very hard to go back to it. The forests are carpeted in moss that you sink into up to your ankle, its emerald green and almost seems to glow. It is the kind of place you only read about in books, and I really want to see it in summer. It was also disquieting to be there, when I got the one the 1st there was no snow, and temperatures were way to high to be normal, and yet our president is still saying that global warming does not exist. In Sweden I stayed with old friends of Katzi and David’s who have a daughter who is 20 and is studying product design so myself her and her boyfriend spent the entire time geeking about art, music and candles. We also talked alot about pagan folk, and read runes and had a generaly happy time. In cludeing two saunas that I really needed. But yes Life is good here, I start classes again next week, two weeks intensive language again and then after a week more of break then the semester starts for real. I started a fast today and think it will be really good for me, it comes at a good time and I really need the clensing. The fun part will be explaning to my new housemate. Hugs to all, even though I did spend one of the best holeday times of my life those of you that I did not see were missed very much. Wayli

Ok so it’s been about a month now since the last update. Life tends to be life and it goes on. These days it involves working on the ten page paper due Friday, and looking for housing. Neither one is going great but they could both be going worse too. This weekend has been fun since it was the fete de lumier, the day that used to be dedicated to Mother Marie for stopping a cholera epidemic from reaching Lyon. Now in the officially non-religious or Laiqe Republique Français, it is a day where they put up great big light displays on all the public buildings. Some of the most amazing video, projection and light based pieces I have ever seen. And all on old buildings like the gothic church down town, and the hotel de ville. It’s a big tourist attraction and they sell mulled wine, crapes and other stuff for three euros of street stands. But it has its jewels like the aforementioned gothic church that had a representation of the four seasons played out on it. And then would cycle back to medical drawings of mythical beasts that would play across the wall. All to great sound effects and some music. Also a samba band played in Croix Rousse, which was great. Croix Rousse is the hill between the rivers overlooking centre ville, which is on the peninsula between the rivers. It has an amazing view. The best part is that Art Du Feu Lyonnaise the local fire dancing association did a spectacle and I got to light up my meteorites for the first time. That was amazing, we were in a garden in Croix Rousse with its amazing view and the fire session didn’t stop between 8 and midnight. There was always some one spinning. The experience of spinning is amazing the whole world shrinks down to just you, and the space you and the fire share. Every thing else ceases to matter. It is amazing. I also got to spit fire with some really good people. The best part was that the place we were spinning at was a fund raiser for Karnavl Humanitaire, so we got to spin and they got to vend their one euro vin choud, and crapes and such, much cheaper and the money went to a good cause. Has been cool here, it was really cold for about a week when it snowed but there says its not too bad. It hasn’t snowed since the brief ten minutes flurries, but it has been raining on and off. So I took the time to go to the green house in Park De la tête d’or, which are amazing and wonderful, and nowhere in Lyon has felt as instantly like home as that place has. Other highlights of the past moth have included the art history classes’ excursions to various historical sites around here. Its great we have never actually had class in a classroom, we just take day trips to churches, roman ruins, and the old part of Lyon. I love it, and for the first time art history is starting to make sense to me. Between that class, history and cinema, and sociaté Français, I have a better knowledge of French history then I do US. Simply because US history was never laid out in a cohesive manner to me, with examples like films, and art to tie the periods together. Also learned to ride a Unicycle, my friend Jess is an avid unicyclist and took the tile to teach me about two weeks ago. Since then I have learned to turn and how to stay on the damn thing, for a couple hundred yards any way. Also I went to an Irish concert that was amazing, the fiddler kept looping himself and playing over it. It was great, he would pluck things on the strings or drum on the body of the fiddle and then loop them, and play over those loops, amazing, he played the way Willie Silver of Eddie and the Fae would have wanted to play. With both him and the electric guitarist looping they made a band of two sound like a five piece that could rock you to sleep or play like the sounds of the daemons screeching their defiance at the heavens. It was great. I was buzzed all the way home that night. The big things to get done now are the Final Paper, finding housing, planning Christmas break, and keeping my head through that. But Life is good, I am generally healthy and happy here, and miss you all. Hugs Wayli |
